Alpinist for a bet climbing novel is written by Italo Zandonella Callegher and tells the story of Piero Ghiglione, a well-known climber remembered as the "vagabond of the mountains" and for one of the most dramatic episodes in the history of mountaineering. A tragedy reconstructed in every detail, which involved Ghiglione's companions in 1954 during an expedition on Monte Api, in Western Nepal. The climber saw them all die.
Ghiglione is a climber with a vast number of ascents in every corner of the world. Passionate about skiing, he later took up climbing at around thirty when he decided as a bet to climb Mount Kazbek in the Caucasus.
