These are the mountains that rise on the slopes of the Val Travignolo, the short but beautiful Trentino valley that descends from the slopes of the Pale di San Martino to merge into the Val di Fiemme, and which largely falls within the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park. In the valley, all the elements of the characteristic landscape of the Dolomitic region are present: the wide bands of forest, the pastures with green alpine meadows at high altitudes, the rushing streams, and the lakes that reflect the color of the sky in a changing manner, finally the vibrant contrast of shapes and colors between the towering Dolomite peaks and the mountains of dark volcanic rocks, which sometimes rise into peaks with a rugged and tormented morphology, but more often stretch into vast plateaus sloping towards the valley floor.

Even from a distance, the landscape of the valley appears dominated by the slender peak of Cimon della Pala, which with its white sedimentary rock overlooks dark coniferous forests and dark slabs of porphyritic rocks, constituting one of the most beautiful and well-known icons of the Trentino Dolomites.
