CT Climbing Technology Ice Screw is made of tempered steel and features a four-point drill and a conical thread that facilitate insertion into the ice. The wide loop allows for easy introduction of the quickdraw. Insertion occurs by screwing, excluding the use of a hammer which, besides damaging the icy surface, causes micro cracks that are not always detectable by a visual inspection. It should also be noted that the hold (extraction force) depends, in addition to the size and quality of the material, especially on the type of ice.
