Description
Rocca Pendice – Climbing in the Euganean Hills is the complete guide to discovering one of the most representative climbing locations in Veneto. With 400 single-pitch routes, 39 multi-pitch climbs, and numerous updated itineraries, this volume tells the story of a historic, technical, and fascinating crag, loved by generations of climbers and mountaineers.
Since 1909, Rocca Pendice has been the vertical symbol of Padua and an authentic reference point for those wishing to climb in the Euganean Hills. At first glance, it may surprise those coming from the great mountains, but entering the heart of the crag reveals its true value: not just a simple valley crag, but a real small mountain, capable of offering intense experiences and routes of great character.
The history of Rocca began with the first ascent in 1909, completed by the Carugati couple, Mariano Rossi, and Antonio Berti, an endeavor that, despite the modest elevation, even required a bivouac on the wall. This detail perfectly captures the spirit of this place, which has also been frequented over time by great names in mountaineering such as Emilio Comici, Gino Soldà , and Reinhold Messner.
Since the 1980s, Rocca Pendice has experienced a new era thanks to the development of sport climbing, with routes of varying difficulty and itineraries increasingly appreciated by younger generations. In recent years, the constant work of passionate local climbers has led to the opening of new lines, further enriching a crag already rich in history and possibilities.
This edition includes 400 single-pitch routes, of which 100 are newly opened, and 39 multi-pitch climbs, also including updates on the Pirio crag and other minor structures scattered throughout the Euganean Hills. Thanks to the collaboration between the Regional Park and CAI, the area is now excellently equipped and stands out for the quality of its routes, among the best in Italy.
