The Caped Merganzer Hat by Patagonia is an extremely versatile hat designed for long sessions in the water and days of intense sun exposure, featuring a modular design that allows it to be worn in three different ways thanks to the adjustable cape. Made from a 100% recycled polyester stretch ripstop fabric, it offers 40+ UPF sun protection and is treated with a long-lasting water-repellent finish free of harmful chemicals to shed moisture. The flexible EVA foam brim, wider than average for increased shade, is designed to float in case of accidental falls into the water, while the integrated chin cord ensures that the hat stays in place even in strong winds or during dives. The cape can be buttoned in front of the chin for maximum coverage, behind the neck for moderate protection with increased ventilation, or tucked inside the rear strap when seeking maximum airflow. Internal comfort is ensured by a low-profile recycled polyester double-knit sweatband, enhanced by miDori™ bioSoft technology for superior breathability and softness against the skin, while the rear closure with elastic cord and buckle allows for precise and secure adjustment.
