The company Petzl was founded by two speleologists, Fernand Petzl and Pierre Chevalier. Together, they introduced numerous innovations in their discipline and in sport climbing. In 1968, they began producing the first descenders, and in 1975, the Petzl brand officially entered the market. Founded in France, the company has always focused on research, development, and innovation; it was Petzl that invented the GRIGRI in 1991, the first self-braking belay device. In 2014, new branches were opened in Spain and Germany. /p>
