Petzl Quark Hammer is an ice axe with a hammer head suitable for ice climbing and technical mountaineering. It is a very versatile ice axe thanks to its modular construction and the blade that adapts to any type of ice, tapering at the tip for better penetration.
Compared to the 2017 version, the 2018 version features a plastic insert placed between the head and the handle that absorbs vibrations and prevents the blade from shifting out of its seat. Additionally, the handle in this version is hydroformed, making the grip of the ice axe much more ergonomic and therefore safer.
Trigrest and Griprest make the handle of the Quark very ergonomic, providing a comfortable and secure grip; when used with the piolet cane technique, the end of the grip penetrates the snow perfectly. In this regard, Petzl has designed the Griprest to be adjustable so that it can be raised to use the ice axe as a walking axe and lowered to provide hand support during climbing.
