Versante Sud Puglia Rock climbing guide: In recent years, Puglia has become an important tourist destination also for Deep Water Solo along its beautiful cliffs. But even in the more classic crags, sport climbing is following the trend of the rest of Italy, and here too, where the few existing mountains are replaced by the numerous canyons we call gravine, there has been a proliferation of new routes.
Some projects have turned into routes, many sectors have taken on significant dimensions, to the point that we can climb here for several days trying always different routes. New spots have been discovered, and some are still to be developed. Finally, some crags whose anchors were deteriorated, particularly those on Gargano, have been re-equipped and renewed with additional routes. With the contribution of the Books For Bolts project, that of Rocciaeresina, and the Fasi Pulgiesi companies, from San Giovanni Rotondo to Santa Maria di Leuca, the playground has grown in quantity and quality of the offer.
You will find in Puglia a small paradise of rock where you can have fun, always with a particular attention to safety, respect for nature, and for those who live and work in the area.
Graziano Montel, born in '71, has moved tons of Puglian rock, creating and then consolidating a reality that is still developing today. A Federal Instructor and Route Setter (FASI), after thirty years of activity, he continues to be the reference point in the area, equipping always new crags, renovating old ones, discovering boulders, and dedicating himself to route setting and indoor teaching. Whether it is rock, resin, or Rock&resin, his passion for vertical climbing is insatiable and all-encompassing, open to the rapid changes that our discipline has been seeing in recent years. If you hear the sound of a drill in a Puglian crag, rest assured that Graziano is there and that something new is being born!
