La Sportiva Ondra Comp climbing shoes: pure performance for indoor bouldering

La Sportiva Ondra Comp
In many respects, it is an absolute novelty, presenting itself as a very specific model of climbing shoe: Adam Ondra wanted to propose to La Sportiva’s product development team a shoe for high performance in indoor bouldering. And, when it comes to bouldering competitions, there are three main points that need to be taken into account to meet the new style of route setting: : excellent smearing on volumes, solid hooks, and precise edging on small footholds.
We are proud to present you here the new La Sportiva Ondra Comp.

La Sportiva Ondra Comp: the idea behind it
If there is one thing that all the most modern bouldering gyms have in common, it is the massive use of large volumes. Until a few years ago, volumes were used to give movement to indoor structures, creating overhanging sections, more or less sharp edges, and a change of pace in mostly vertical problems. The volumes were then used as an extension of the wall, by screwing holds on their surfaces.
Today it is more and more common to find boulders that are set, from start to the top, using only volumes: this is a new style that requires power and compression, especially in the competition world. With this type of routesetting, we have no chance of finding a "life-saving" crimp screwed to the edge of the volume; instead, we have to squeeze the volumes, try to make amazing heel hooks and perform our trickiest toe hooks. This is where the Ondra Comp shoes come in, with an innovative construction that allows the foot to stretch inside the shoe to maximize weight distribution and to ensure excellent grip on the footholds.

Edging and perfomance with the new La Sportiva Ondra Comp
SenseGrip™ technology: the smedging revolution
What happens if we combine smearing (the ability to spread the shoes over the largest surface to ensure responsiveness in jumps), with edging (the ability to generate force even on smaller and rounded notches)? The result sounds like “Smedging”, the new frontier of Ondra Comp shoes: a soft half sole leaves you complete freedom of movement to perform dynamic jumps, while the LaSpoFlex 1,1mm midsole, at the tip end, provides you excellent support on the smaller footholds. SenseGripTM technology is applied to the rubber sole and toe, which are the parts of the shoe that have to meet the specific fit and grip requirements of modern indoor bouldering.
Tensioning system, heel-hooking and much more
The shoe tension is guaranteed by the P3 System (Permanent Power Platform), an edging system that works in synergy with the sole to distribute the weight, by keeping the tension constant over time. Thanks to this tensioning system, you can also perform very solid and effective toe and heel hooks, both on flat edges and on small supports. The compound used is Vibram Xs Grip 2 3.5mm, the one we already know for extreme grip and maximum precision on small supports. It is the most intuitive choice for situations where maximum grip is required, and is irreplaceable in all those climbing shoes designed for boulder: the Vibram XS Grip 2 is synonymous with performace grip.
