Description
This guide includes a selection of equipped and self-protection routes, both sport and classic, from 26 areas located in the Central System. The Central System is a mountain range over 500 km long and about thirty kilometers wide. It includes about fifteen subsystems or mountain ranges, with altitudes ranging from 1,493 m to 2,592 m. This guide describes only the most relevant areas for climbing practice. The areas are divided into four blocks and organized by provinces: Madrid, Segovia, Ávila, and Salamanca. For each area, the distance from the capital Madrid, the total number of routes, and the difficulty range are indicated. Additionally, the altitude of the top of the boulder, the maximum height of the wall, and the approach time are specified. When self-protection material is necessary, it is specified in the text. Otherwise, the route can be climbed only with quickdraws. Practically all the routes have been personally climbed by the author, and all the information (including difficulties) is updated as of June 2008.
