Edelrid Ohm II is the second generation of an innovative device designed for climbing teams with a significant weight difference between the belayer and the lead climber. Designed to enhance the braking effect during lead climbing, the Ohm II makes belaying safer and more intuitive than ever thanks to significant functional updates. The new swivel joint greatly improves the device's freedom of movement, eliminating any constraints on the direction of the belay: once attached to the first bolt of the safety chain, it functions correctly regardless of the clipping direction.
The locking system prevents accidental openings and makes the rope insertion and device removal during descent much simpler and quicker. In the event of a fall, the Ohm II effectively reduces the forces acting on the belayer, decreasing the risk of being lifted or thrown against the first quickdraw, and allows for lowering a heavier partner in a much more controlled manner. During the belaying of the lead climber, the rope management remains smooth and natural, without additional friction during the rope giving phase.
The overall effect is comparable to virtually increasing the belayer's weight by about 25 kg, improving stability and control even for those with a minimum weight of 40 kg.
