Versante Sud Ghiaccio delle Orobie is a winter mountaineering guide that presents numerous routes to be tackled with ice axes and crampons in the areas of the Orobie Alps, Presolana, Grigne, Concarena, and Resegone.
Long overshadowed by the main alpine chain, the Orobie and the Lombard Prealps are experiencing a phase of rediscovery linked to the increasingly widespread practice of winter mountaineering. During the harsh Orobie winters, characterized by abundant precipitation and marked temperature fluctuations, walls at moderate altitudes transform into wild glacial slopes: the ideal playground for a growing number of enthusiasts who, armed with ice axes and crampons, trace their paths along frozen lines of varying difficulty. In addition to the numerous classic channels, ideal for first steps with crampons on, new ice and modern mixed routes are added each year on almost unexplored slopes, where the imagination of mountaineers still finds full freedom of expression.
The authors are Valentino Cividini, Marco Romelli, and Matteo Bertolotti, deep connoisseurs of these areas that have become their second home over the years. This guide is born from this collaboration, which shares a common value of extensive experience in winter mountaineering and a love for these regions.
