The quest for notoriety at all costs is perhaps a mandatory path for many mountain men. Even the great transgressive wave of pioneers has turned into a trend: the followers of steep skiing are countless now. Gullies, chutes, and small walls are crowded with skiers, and in ski mountaineering, trips without steep sections are discarded. One should not be surprised, as this is just one of the consequences (perhaps the most positive) of the publicity that we have all sought, anyway. In our discipline, at least two personalities have always coexisted: the public one has been predominant, but it has never motivated the most important results. As in the past, the best fruits and an authentic renewal will come from the other soul, the one inspired by extreme skiing, linked to its origins of great and silent sporting passion and aimed at limits that make it a true philosophy.
