SALEWA is a company from Munich, in Germany, that specializes in the production of mountaineering equipment. It started in the 1930s producing saddles, backpacks and footballs, it then evolved during the 1960s and started producing ice crampons and the first ever ice hooks. Later SALEWA started the cooperation with Reinhold Messner and Kurt Albert, and in 1990 it was acquired by the company Oberalp that transferred its seat in Bozen.
