Galvanized steel is a carbon steel with a zinc coating.
They do not last forever, they last as long as zinc is consumed while stainless steel lasts longer in the same corrosive environment.
Chromed steel is a carbon steel with a chrome coating. The latter, in addition to protecting the steel from rust, colors it. This also doesn't last forever, it lasts as long as the chrome coating is worn out.
