Edelrid Pinch assisted braking climbing belay device
Edelrid Pinch is a climbing belay device with assisted braking designed for use in crag climbing and multi-pitch routes.
An absolute novelty from Edelrid, it has several interesting features, such as being the first belay device on the market that can be directly attached to the harness's belay loop, eliminating the need for a carabiner. This allows for a position closer to the body, increasing control over the brake rope and improving usability.
Another point is that thanks to its construction, Pinch is capable of releasing more rope compared to traditional belay devices currently on the market (on average 20 / 30 cm more), thus offering a more attentive and dynamic safety.
The rope, then, passes through in linear mode inside, reducing the annoying curls that can form.
Regarding the lowering phase, there is a lever with which, depending on the pressure applied, you can adjust the speed. Additionally, there is an anti-panic function that is perfect for beginners but can be deactivated by more experienced climbers using a provided screw.
A special feature, however, is the integrated second level of braking, which allows for controlled lowering by pulling further on the lowering lever when belaying particularly light individuals or in systems with high rope friction.
Another very interesting aspect is the ability to attach the Pinch directly to the anchor in long routes: the lowering lever can always be activated freely as it is the only belay device that can be fixed in four different directions with 90° increments.
