Petzl GriGri + Plus climbing belay device with assisted braking
Petzl GriGri Plus is a sports climbing belay device with an assisted braking system, designed as the new tool for securing the lead climber. It is suitable for all single ropes on the market, as you can use ropes with a diameter from 8.5 mm to 11 mm. The range in which its use is optimized has also increased, allowing for ropes between 8.9 and 10.5 mm.
Petzl has included a panic system that enhances absolute safety during climbing practice. The panic feature developed by Petzl consists of an automatic lock that engages when you, the belayer, pull the lowering lever too forcefully or unintentionally, risking the continuation of your partner's fall. Unlike previous Petzl panic systems, Petzl has devised a system for the GriGri + that avoids the annoying problem experienced during lowering. Each time the panic engages, you have to start over, creating a significant delay for the experienced belayer during lowering. Thanks to a change in the position of your left hand, you can operate the lever without the panic feature activating, allowing for a calm descent to the ground.
Another innovation of the GriGri Plus is the selector that allows switching from lead belay mode to top rope belay mode (moulinette). Both modes work for any type of belaying (to avoid setting errors), but with the moulinette mode, belaying the second climber is much more comfortable and natural.
Petzl has thought of everything: the most wear-prone part, the area where the rope runs on the braking side, has been reinforced with a stainless steel plate to extend its life. The possibility of the rope getting stuck under the lever when the belayer engages the lock, which was not uncommon with the GriGri 2, has been eliminated with the addition of a block that prevents the passage of the taut rope. GriGri Plus + is the new frontier for fun at the crag.
