Versante Sud Aosta Valley Crags english version is a guide dedicated to sport climbing in one of the most diverse and interesting regions of the Italian landscape. Despite its limited geographical extent, the Aosta Valley offers a high number of crags thanks to its alpine morphology, shaped by the glacial action of the ancient Balteo glacier, which has left evident marks on the walls of the main valley and the numerous side valleys.
Alongside the historic sectors that have marked the history of local sport climbing, in recent years there has been a strong development of new crags, making the area a true national hub for climbing. The side valleys, characterized by high altitudes, host numerous summer crags ideal for climbing in the cool, while the thermal inversion of the lower valley allows for climbing in the sun even during winter.
The guide focuses on the eastern part of the Aosta Valley and the foothill areas of Canavese, considered as a homogeneous macroarea from a logistical and morphological point of view. Within a radius of about fifty kilometers around the Forte di Bard, the climber has a wide choice of crags accessible in all seasons.
