The coastal strip of the Supramonte di Baunei is a harsh and wild area where nature is still the undisputed master of the territory. There are no natural sources of fresh water supply, the paths described, almost totally devoid of signs, retrace ancient pastoral walkways and the mule tracks that the charcoal burners used to transport coal to the few landings on the coast.
The five long treks presented in the guide have a profoundly different character, from the simplest multi-day walks with overnight stays in structures, to very demanding routes that require experience and mountaineering skills to orient oneself in these truly wild places. In fact, there will be via ferratas, climbing sections, exposed ledges and abseiling. Also described are the bivouac points, the escape routes, the places for the delivery of supplies and the emergency shelters that may be encountered along the way.
Crossing these inaccessible but incredible places requires attention and commitment, but as the author Luigi Tassi testifies, it will be "love at the first step".
