Petzl GriGri, a belay device for sport climbing with an assisted braking system, è is the 2019 edition of the most well-known belay device in the world!
This new updated version accommodates a wider range of ropes, specifically accepting diameters from 8.5 mm to 11 mm (optimized for ropes from 8.9 mm to 10.5 mm) so that it can be used with all single ropes currently on the market.
Other improvements include a smoother descent and, thanks to the different material, it will wear less on the inside of the moving flange, and there is also a feature that prevents the rope from slipping out of its seat.
It is a device used by both the most experienced climbers and those who have recently taken up climbing. Externally, it features two engraved figures that explain and remind how to insert the rope inside.
Using it is very simple; the belayer must always hold the rope from the braking side with their right hand, and in the event of a fall, the rope becomes taut and the cam of the GriGri rotates upwards, pinching the rope against the outer wall of the belay device. This will stop the rope from slipping and consequently prevent the fall.
To release the rope after a fall or to begin a descent, all that is needed is to operate the ergonomic handle made of reinforced nylon.
