Tiziano Cantalamessa, one of the strongest mountaineers in the history of central Italy often compared to Bonatti for his style and for the extremely difficult climbs.
He was "the man who always came back" and had an edge. As Alberico Alesi testifies: «Where the others gave up in exhaustion, he was just beginning to struggle. One of the reasons why I sometimes preferred not to go out with him, with all the affection I reserved for him, was because his presence canceled out the problems. "
This book, however, does not celebrate the umpteenth mountaineer, but tells us about a man, his relationship with others and his way of conceiving the mountains, his desecrating, light-hearted, cheerful style in living the adventure.
The Fitz Roy climbs, opens a route on the Bhagirathi, only the avalanches will drive it back to Italy from an attempt at a new opening on the Rupal del Nanga Parbat. But as a good Ascolano, his field of choice was the Paretone del Corno Grande: it is there that since the early 1980s he has opened several new routes and accomplished incredible concatenations, conceptually twenty years ahead. He will not stop the mountain but a trivial work accident in 1999.
