Description

Versante Sud Routesetting: The essence of a climbing gym is a manual dedicated to the world of routesetting, that is, the art of creating and maintaining routes and boulders in climbing gyms. You may have found yourself, in the middle of a gym session, wondering who the author of those colorful routes that challenge you is. Behind every hold and volume is the work of the routesetter, the person who, along with their team, designs the routes on the panels and ensures that each route offers a new, stimulating, and fun experience.

This volume is aimed at both professional routesetters and those who wish to approach this world, gym managers, or simply climbers curious to discover how the movements and sequences they encounter on indoor walls are born. The book comprehensively presents tools, effective methodologies, and operational structures, offering an in-depth overview of the world of routesetting.

The manual is enriched by contributions from some of the most experienced and well-known Italian routesetters: Alberto Gnerro, Marco Erspammer, Lorenzo Angelozzi, Jacopo Larcher, Anna Borrella, and Luca Camanni.

The author, Guille Burba, originally from Argentina and a graduate in Computer Science, began his career as a routesetter in 2000 at the Perù Beach gym in Buenos Aires, one of the most important in the country. At a time when routesetting was still not widespread and equipment was limited, creating a good route required considerable physical and mental effort. His experience then expanded in Europe, where he spent three years in Germany, in the city of Bonn, working in some of the most well-known gyms in the area and deepening his knowledge of modern routesetting techniques.

He later moved to Spain, where he collaborated with numerous facilities and participated in congresses, events, and training courses throughout Europe and the United States. Today, he also works in the official training of climbing sports technicians, coordinating courses that combine the mountain dimension with the indoor one. He is also a member of the board of the Spanish Association of Mountain Guides (AEGM), actively contributing to the growth and professionalization of the sector.
