This second edition features a significant revision and expansion, providing many more techniques and insights.
The existing connections between yoga and climbing will be illustrated, exploring not only the aspects related to body awareness, breath, and our mental dynamics, but also contextualizing them within the spiritual journey of this ancient discipline. The goal is not only to show how yogic techniques can be aimed at climbing both physically and mentally, but also to demonstrate how climbing, approached correctly, can become a form of yoga itself.
The principles of Yoga will be presented, some of the most important yogic postures (Asana) will be described, and specific sequences for climbers will be introduced, explaining their usefulness in climbing in depth. Subsequently, various breathing techniques (Pranayama) that can be applied in climbing will be explored, followed by an analysis of the fundamentals of meditation and how climbing can become a moving meditation. There is also a chapter dedicated to yogic relaxation techniques and an explanation of how the ethical/moral codes (Yama and Niyama) of yoga can actually find a very current application in the world of climbing.
